The Disappearance of Childhood by Neil Postman is an excellent piece of literature that supports the interventionist view of adolescence and childhood. Postman traces the history of how adolescence and childhood came to be recognized as developmental stages. He then argues that current societal trends are leading to the disappearance of the traditional views of adolescence and childhood. He draws attention to the sexualization of teenagers and the demands placed upon today's children. His arguments are thought provoking and leave the reader wondering how childhood and adolescence will come to be defined in the near future. (Emily Grace)
